Family Therapy

Family therapy provides a supportive space to address conflict, improve communication, and strengthen relationships across generations. At Axis, sessions are designed to help family members understand one another, navigate challenges, and build more effective ways of working together.

My Specialities

I specialize in working with families facing ongoing conflict, communication breakdowns, or the impact of trauma and emotion dysregulation on family dynamics.

Family therapy provides a structured, collaborative space to understand how each person influences the system and to build patterns of interaction that support change and connection.

At Axis, sessions draw on evidence-based approaches that help family members communicate more effectively, navigate challenges, and work together with greater stability and empathy.

What to Expect

Family therapy moves beyond “talking about problems” to building and practicing new ways of relating together. You can anticipate:
Clarifying roles and patterns
Understanding dynamics that keep family conflict or stress in motion
Building communication, emotion-regulation, and problem-solving skills
Reviewing progress together and strengthening changes that support the whole system

The number of sessions varies depending on the family’s needs, ranging from short-term focused work to longer-term support.

Core Approaches

Family therapy focuses on understanding each person’s perspective, improving communication, and practicing new strategies together to shift unhelpful patterns and strengthen relationships. Treatments include:

Cognitive-Behavioral Family Therapy (CBFT)

CBFT helps families identify unhelpful interaction patterns and understand how they contribute to ongoing stress. It teaches communication, coping, and problem-solving skills that support healthier, more effective dynamics.

Behavioral Parent Training (BPT / PMT)

BPT gives parents clear strategies for consistent reinforcement, limit-setting, and collaborative problem-solving. These skills help reduce disruptive behaviors and create more predictable, supportive home routines.

DBT for Families

This approach applies DBT principles to help families regulate emotions, reduce conflict, and increase validation. Sessions focus on building communication and problem-solving skills that strengthen both individual and family functioning.

CRAFT

CRAFT trains family members in positive reinforcement, communication, and behavior-change strategies. It helps families support a loved one’s recovery while reducing patterns that unintentionally maintain problematic behaviors.
